Soul Kitchen Hostel

I love hostels for many reasons.  Soul Kitchen Hostel in St. Petersburg, Russia was probably one of the top 5 hostels I have stayed at so far. I will stay at this hostel again because it has:

Excellent service and facilities

All the assistance they provided, from start to the end, was professional.  They quickly responded to emails of questions I had about the frustrating visa process and invitation letter.  Throughout the stay, they had provided us with all the information that we needed, anything from directions to taxi arrangements .

I love this information page that they put together for their guests. Everything you need to know on one sheet.

They have everything a hotel has to offer, if not more – clean towels, slippers, iron, drying rack, 24-hour receptionist, a fully-equipped kitchen, free international calls (yes, you hear that right!) and even classical music in the bathroom stalls,   Even after we checked out, they let us use the shower and welcomed us to hang out in the lounges while we waited for our night train.

The lovely kitchen

There was a shelf filled with goodies (rice, pasta, snack) that other guests left behind, in which everyone was welcomed to use.  My friend, H, made this dish for us on that rainy and windy day after we attempted to walk out to the market to get some vegetables to go with our pasta but failed to do so due to the strong wind that pushed us right back in the door.

Simple, but delicious!

The hostel offers free city walking tours and different fun activities in the evenings.  We were lucky to try the yummy homemade pancakes made by the staffs one night.  Right after this, there was a ping pong match to burn off the calories, in which we did not participate in…

Along with free tea and coffee, they also have fresh baked pear sponge cake in the morning! IMG_3070.JPG

Hungry at night and wish you had something to snack on?  No worries.  They have these goodies for sale.  Just get what you want and drop your ruble in the money box.

I was so glad they had umbrellas for us to borrow!

And they even have shoe dryers! So meticulously thoughtful….  Who wants to walk around in wet shoes?  These little things make a difference.

There is a storage room to put your luggage so you can continue to explore the city before you catch your night flight or train.  Soul Kitchen Hostel also allows you to check in early if the room is ready. If it is not, you can hang out in one of their comfortable lounges.

Location, Location, Location

The hostel is less than a ten minute walk away from the train station.   There are plenty of nice restaurants and cafes in the area. There are also many grocery stores around where you can pick up water and snacks.  Around the train station, there is a big supermarket and outdoor market.

Many of the tourist sites are within walking distance from the hostel.

 Clean, homey and charming hostel

I love the decor of this place.

I have always loved traveling but did not venture out on my own until I was in my mid-20s. After my first solo adventure to Vietnam, I have fallen in love with the freedom and exhilaration of traveling alone. I would like to use this blog to document my travels and record memorable stories I do not want to forget. It will be a platform to share useful information and hear about others' experiences and thoughts, not necessarily about travels but also on life in general. Live a simple and meaningful life, enjoy learning along the way, travel the world and explore the unknown!
